Three-Phase Current Monitoring

Three-Phase Current Monitoring
Furnace Manufacturing

A custom industrial furnace manufacturer came to OSI for three-phase current monitoring on a furnace. The input would be anywhere up to 600Aac full-scale depending on the size of the furnace.

Ohio Semitronics supplied a split-core CTY series Current Transformer (UL listed) in combination with the 3ACT Three-Phase AC Current Transducer, also UL listed, which provides three isolated dc outputs that are directly proportional to the three current inputs.

As an added bonus, both the CTY and the 3ACT can be calibrated as a set. Image left, 3ACT, image right, CTY.

The split-core transformer offered the manufacturer easy installation and the perfect solution to measure 600Aac.

About The 3ACT

The output of the 3ACT is derived from the average absolute value of the input and is calibrated in terms of the RMS value of the input sine wave.

Models with full-scale input ranges of 25A and higher use external sensors (CT’s) such as the CTY was used in the 600Aac furnace application described above.

With the exception of models which provide 4-20mA outputs, denoted by an "E", all models are self-powered from the measured line.
